"The Bell Tolls." Part One
Paul Buscemi's Column for Monday December 17, 2001. Buscemiarts@hotmail.com
The year is rapidly coming to a close. My goals hang over my head like the sword of Damocles. My latest screenplay will be completed by year's end but not in time to market (or should I say, done at the worst time to market.) Frankly, it's looking bad for the career launch in 2001.
As I look back over the past year, I'm very exited by the rapid advancement of my screenwriting career. Indeed, it was a year full of blood, sweat, and Carpal Tunnel syndrome. But was all that work for not? Just what was accomplished anyway? What mistakes were made?
I thought I heard the voice of the old man in the park the other day, but it was just Little Script again. He is a rejuvenated little text these days. Full of happy energy. You may recall, his rather surly demeanor in past months. We finally got him some Prozac. He's quite balanced now.
Yet, he still can creep me out at times. The other day, as we were discussing the achievements and pitfalls of the past year, he blurted out, "Ask not who the screenplay tolls for - it tolls for thee!" And then he promptly asked for a page one rewrite of himself. We upped his dose of Prozac and he seems to be fine now. But the questions remained. What was accomplished this year? What advancements were made? How will it all end?
The answers next week. Stay tuned....
